Laser hair removal requires multiple treatments as the hair follicle needs to be at a certain phase of its life cycle to be effectively treated. Four to eight treatments are usually required.

There may be some redness which typically will last less than an hour.
It is recommended that you do not have a tan and that you have had no sun exposure at least two weeks prior to your treatment of sun exposed areas. Exposure to laser with tanned skin can result in unwanted burns.
Some medications are absolute contraindications to laser hair removal including Accutane and Retin-A. You must be off Accutane for at least six months before you can be treated and Retin-A should be discontinued at least one week prior to treatment. Other medications can make you more sun-sensitive so our laser technician will review all of the precautions prior to any treatment.
No – you need avoid using self-tanners two weeks prior to treatment as this can cause unwanted burns.
Any treatment that removes the follicle (pulls it out, like tweezing and waxing) will eliminate the laser’s target so these treatments need to be discontinued two to three weeks prior to your treatment. Shaving is okay and shaving the day before your treatment is recommended.
With any hair removal service, there is always a factor of discomfort. We do use a cooling hand piece and ice. We can also write a prescription for a local anesthetic to minimize this discomfort.
The laser is drawn to the colour (melanin) in your hair. Grey, white and light blonde hair contains little to no melanin and therefore does not respond to laser hair removal treatments.
